Record Retention

We all need to maintain and store appropriate financial information. However, we must balance the benefits and burdens of storing information for extended periods of time. Therefore, we have established a record retention policy. Below is a summary of our record retention policy.

Tax Returns

Existing Clients - 10 Years

Former Clients - 7 Years

Workpapers

All Clients - 7 Years

Permanent File Information

Existing Clients - Indefinitely

Former Clients - 7 Years

Permanent file information includes contracts, wills, trusts and other information which may have implications for future tax years.

Our record retention policy applies to paper and electronic files.

Our record retention policy is intended to meet our responsibilities as certified public accountants and tax preparers. Our record retention is not a substitute for our clients' record retention requirements. Each taxpayer is responsible to maintain adequate books and records for tax, legal and insurance purposes.

It is our recommendation for you to adopt and adhere to your own record retention policy.

Below view the IRS recommendations regarding record retention. You should also consult your attorney for other business and legal considerations.
